Luke House Community Meal Program creates connections throughout the Madison community through fellowship and food. Blessed Sacrament Parish has two meal teams that gather food donations, help set up the meal at Luke House, serve and share the meal with the guests, and then clean up by clearing tables and packaging up the leftovers, and mopping the floors. The staff at Luke House assists with these jobs as well. This is a wonderful way to get to know other parishioners and to experience the rewards of living your faith by helping others. Each meal is coordinated by a team with team captains that are responsible for the logistics.
Volunteers from Blessed Sacrament Parish serve LUNCH on the fourth Monday of the month all year. Volunteers can donate food, prepare meatloaves, assist with transporting food to Luke House, help with setting up, serving, fellowship with guests, and clean-up between 10:00 am and 1:00 PM. The greatest need is for help actually serving the meal and you can sign-up for the Mondays that best fit your schedule. For more information, contact Monica Cauble at [email protected]. Sign up to volunteer for the Lunch Meal.
Volunteers are also needed to help with dinners at Luke House during the months of the year that have a fifth week. Volunteers can donate fresh or canned food, cooked chicken, or assist with setting up, serving, fellowship with guests, and cleanup. The time commitment is 4:45-7:00 PM. The greatest need is serving the meal for the dinner as well, and you can volunteer for the dates that best fit your schedule. I was drawn to join Blessed Sacrament parish because of the many opportunities to build community life with fellow parishioners. The Luke House dinner meal is one of those opportunities. Luke House is an interfaith community meal program on the near east side of Madison. Blessed Sacrament provides a lunch team and a dinner team. Our parish is responsible for about six dinners a year. I chose to help with the dinner team because the 4:45-7:00 PM time slot works with my busy family and work schedule. I can choose which dates work for me, and it's a great option for families to serve together. On the dates when I can't volunteer, I can still provide important assistance by donating canned or fresh food, which can be dropped off at the church anytime before the meal. It's easy to sign up via email for what works for you. By helping Madison residents and families have a hot, sit-down meal, I have built a better connection with fellow parishioners and with our community. It's a wonderful group of committed and interesting people and we would love to have you join us!
