In Genesis, God created the earth and all its creatures, calling them “good”.
We love God and we love what he has made, a world that is beautiful and full of wonder and awe.
God also calls us to be caretakers of the earth, a call echoed by Saint Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict, and Pope Francis.
In his encyclical Laudato Si, Pope Francis states that being “protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience” (paragraph 217).
Our team cares for creation by sponsoring educational events, creation appreciation outings, bulletin announcements, and promoting local food. We also work to lower our energy footprint and save money such as energy efficiency projects and solar power for Blessed Sacrament, and promote similar opportunities for parishioners’ homes.
We also coordinate the Blessed Sacrament Monthly Sustainability Challenge which invites all parish members to practice integrating care of creation into their daily lives. We encourage you to participate in the monthly challenge!
